Bayer Cropscience Acquired Certain Agrogreen &Acute;S Biological Products [2009-06-11]

Bayer CropScience announced that it acquired certain assets and technology related to biological development products of Agrogreen, Ashdod, Israel. Through this acquisition Bayer CropScience expands its broad range of crop protection solutions with biocontrol agents. The company also sees good prospects for use of these biocontrol agents by turfgrass professionals. AgroGreen, a business unit of the Minrav Group, is one of the leading companies in the bionematicides business. Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquired assets include products marketed under the brand name BioNem (active ingredient Bacillus firmus), reducing nematode populations and root infestations in the soil, while stimulating increased yields. BioNem is currently registered in Israel for use in cucumbers, eggplant, pepper, tomato, almond, apricot, olive, peach, plum, pomegranate, major herbs, flowers and garlic. Based on this Bacillus Firmus as a mixing partner, Bayer CropScience plans to develop new seed treatment solutions for important agricultural crops such as corn, soybean and cotton as well as soil applied applications for use on fruits and vegetables.
Oil, Metal Giant Profit Drops Send Chinese Shares 0.7% Lower [2009-06-11]

Chinese equities dropped 0.69 percent on Monday, dragged by oil and metal shares, as some industry leaders’ newly released annual reports dampened investor confidence. The Shanghai Composite Index lost 16.4 points, or 0.69 percent to 2,358.04. The Shenzhen Component Index was down by 83.73 points, or 0.93 percent to 8,910.42. Losses outnumbered gains by 424 to 418 in Shanghai but gains outnumbered losses by 448 to 287 in Shenzhen. Combined turnover expanded to 191.9 billion yuan (28.1 billion U.S. dollars) from 183.68 billion yuan on the previous trading day. Metal stocks slackened Monday as Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd. (Chalco), the country’s largest aluminium company firm, expected to post a loss for the first quarter of the year after it reported a 99.9 percent plunge in full-year net profit to 9.2 million yuan in 2008. Chalco shares shed 3.76 percent to close at 10.49 yuan. Sinopec, the country’s top refiner, trimmed 1.32 percent to 8.97 yuan, as it reported Sunday a year- on- year decline of 47.3 percent in its net profit to 29.8 billion yuan last year. PetroChina, the country’s largest oil firm, lost 2.05 percent to 11.49 yuan after it reported last week its net profit for 2008 dropped by 22 percent from a year ago to 114.4 billion yuan. The brokerage sector rose across the board and rose 3.27 percent Monday as the active market dealing in recent weeks had boosted investor confidence in brokerage companies’ profitability, dealers said. Sinolink Securities, a major domestic brokerage firm, jumped by the daily 10 percent to 34.22 yuan, as the Sichuan-based company Monday reported a 101.45 percent year-on-year net profit growth to 756 million yuan last year.
Bayer Materialscience Acquires Systems House In Greece [2009-06-11]

Bayer MaterialScience acquires the polyurethane systems house of Neochimiki S.A., Athens. Neochimiki, a trader for chemical raw materials in Greece, and Bayer MaterialScience has concluded an agreement to this effect. Previously known as Monochem S.A. and headquartered in Inofyta, north of Athens, the systems house is transferred to Bayer Hellas and integrated into the Greek BaySystems systems house. Financial details of the transaction will not be disclosed. Two years ago, Bayer MaterialScience acquired the polyurethanes systems business of Dr. D. A. Delis AG, Athens, and therewith became the first large producer of polyurethanes to establish its own systems house in Greece, according to the company. The business activities of the BaySystems systems house focus primarily on rigid foams for the construction and insulation industries, and on polyurethane molded foam and systems for the footwear industry. In addition to the Greek systems house, the network of systems houses in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region of Bayer MaterialScience also includes the BaySystems houses in Germany, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Russia, Italy, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
